For Thur. 1/30 let's pick up with the rest of the poems in Poetry Packet 2, beginning with the poems you discussed in your groups.

Creative Assignments:

Work on writing, revising, typing:

1. write 3 poems that use the list of 20 words from the first poetry packet

2. write 2 sonnets, written in any style (see Shakespeare, Mullen, Berrigan sonnets from P. Packet 2); you can write about anything, use the sonnet examples for help in getting some ideas...

Watch the syllabus for when the poems are due to turn in.

Also, remember to post on the blog: write about any of the poems from Poetry Packet 2 that you have not written on already.

Welcome to Creative Writing

Check here for announcements and updates for class. Also, make sure to download and carefully read  the syllabus (posted on EMU Online, Doc Sharing)

Because the first day of class was cancelled due the weather, and we have no class meeting on Thur., Jan 8, you are responsible for the following assignment. Please read carefully and follow all instructions so that I can access and read your blog when you are finished:

Blog Assignment Due by 5pm Thursday, Jan 8

1.      Set up your blog; see instructions at the end of the syllabus and below.

2.      Write 2-3 paragraphs and post as the first entry on your blog. Write about your own relationship to writing, what kinds of writing have you done in the past and what kinds of writing do you do now? Do you prefer academic (papers for class) or creative (poetry or fiction?) and what do you want to practice more (in terms of your own writing and reading to help your writing)? Add whatever else you would like to say here.

3.      Post the URL ( a link to the blog) on the Webliography on the EMU Online page for this class. Look for the Webliography link on the top menu, and click on “add new entry” to add your blog address. Copy and paste the link here so I can find your blog.

Setting Up Your Own Blog
You are required to maintain a blog that is used exclusively for the purposes of writing weekly responses (and possibly other assignments) for this class. You may set up a new blog via Blogger.com or another provider that you prefer. If you have a blog of your own already, please create and new and separate blog for use in this class.

  1. Go to Blogger.com or to Wordpress.com and follow the instructions to create a new blog. Select your page style from the options listed and spend some time playing around to see how it works, how to post entries, how to change the formatting, etc. Create a new post that is a brief introduction of yourself to me and to the class; this is your first blog-post assignment.

  1. Make sure to designate the blog title on the blog page(for example: Jill’s Creative Writing Blog) as any title that you like and that seems appropriate for this class (others in the class will have access to read your posts, and I will read them on a weekly basis). And, make sure to note that the blog address (the URL in the address line) can be a separate title. I would prefer if you use either your name or the blog title in the address (address, ex.: http://201Darling.wordpress.com) so that I can easily identify you and your blog.

  1. When you have the blog set up, bring the URL to class (the URL is the blog address (http://.....)

  1. If you have problems with the set up, send me an email.
